3 Tips to Become a Better Actor

Acting can be nerve-racking and we are continuously working to improve our skills and put on a seamless performance for our audience. So, what makes a great stage actor? Here are 3 tips to becoming a better actor:

1. Voice Projection

One of the biggest mistakes an actor or actress can make is not speaking clearly or loud enough for the audience to hear. The ability to project your voice as far as the back of the theatre is key when performing. The best trick to help project your voice is to speak loudly, but don’t yell. Use your lungs and breathing to help project the sound to the back of the room.

2. Memorize Your Lines

Nothing is worse than getting on stage to perform and suddenly drawing a blank on some of your lines. Being able to memorize your lines is an essential skill any actor or actress must master. Apps are a great resource to use when learning to memorize lines. Another trick is to write the lines out. Physically writing the lines can help you memorize them better. Lastly, practice, practice, practice. The more your repeat your lines out loud, the better you will be able to recite them during your performance.

3. Confidence

We’ve all heard the saying – confidence is key. This is very true when it comes to acting. Displaying confidence on the stage shows the audience you know what you’re doing, and therefore helps your performance. Believe in yourself and have faith that you are a great actor or actress and the rest will follow.
