Interns at the Highwood Theatre are an integral part of our team. Being an intern at the Highwood Theatre is a great opportunity to get involved with a non-profit organization and learn the ins-and-outs of theatre. Interns may also get the chance (if needed), to work as paid teaching artists for our programs. Interns can also apply to be staff members or regular teaching artists. Internship schedules are flexible - we expect individuals to be able to commit to at least six hours a week to the theatre.
Dates: Summer internships are usually 2.5 months.
Times: Flexible schedule - all interns must work at least six hours per week. Summer interns generally work between 20 and 30 hours weekly.
Location: Office is located in downtown Silver Spring, MD.
Compensation: Internships are unpaid, but credit can be received. Parking/Metro stipends are available.
Qualifications: The successful applicant will have knowledge of and experience in their selected internship field. The applicant will have an interest in working with students and adults, as well as a desire to learn, innovate, experiment, collaborate, and take initiative alone or with a group.
The applicant must be 18 years of age or older. Interns must complete a background check if requested.

Current Openings:
MARKETING INTERN:
Will assist in various marketing, advertising and public relations assignments including community outreach, social media management, writing press releases, designing and distributing marketing materials, contacting potential community partners, planning and executing events, fostering media relations, and creating a comprehensive marketing plan for the 2017-2018 season of productions and programs. Must be creative, organized, self-motivated, have strong communication skills and work well in a collaborative environment. Applications are being accepted now for spring and summer internships.
DEVELOPMENT INTERN:
Will work in areas of fundraising, grant writing, database management, donor prospects, donor acknowledgment, and other areas to support our expanding organization. Interns have unique opportunities to identify special fundraising opportunities for specific programs in the upcoming year. Must have excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work as part of a team without hesitating to share one’s own ideas and pursue the ideas of others. Spring and Summer interns will participate in a large outreach effort to reach corporate and business sponsors for our 2017-2018 season of productions and programs.
GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERN:
Opportunities to create logos, posters, images, edit photos and create innovative graphics formats to express and advance our programming, mission, and productions. Summer graphic design interns will be responsible for creating logos, posters, and branding for our 2017-2018 season of productions and programs. Must be innovative, imaginative, and have solid graphic design skills, experience with Photoshop, and graphically representing ideas and themes. HIGHWOOD AT SCHOOL INTERN:
Will assist in the management of our partnering schools. Management includes but is not limited to: evaluations, observations, compiling feedback, assessing and planning tactics for improvement within the programs. Intern will assist with the expansion of the program through locating and contacting prospective partners about collaboration opportunities. They will also participate in creative promoting and marketing for the H@S program. The intern will assist and work with our teaching artists to build, expand and implement program lesson plans. Must have great communication andproblem solving skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and participate increative planning process.Intern will be a large part of the Highwood at School expansion for the 2017-2018 school year.
